Remarks

Some ideas change as we put them into words.
Others begin to shift when we listen to someone else’s perspective.

The 41st A2ZLiteracy Reading and Writing Club meeting centered around “When I Change My Mind.”

I shared an experience of learning poetry. An encouraging English teacher invited students to take turns reading lines of a poem, giving those who were less comfortable speaking in class an opportunity to gradually build confidence.

For me, writing and presenting are not only about sharing an idea that is already fully formed. Sometimes, the process of expressing an idea is what helps us organize and understand our own thinking.

Another student shared her understanding of Equity and Fairness.

Does being fair mean giving everyone exactly the same thing? If people have different needs, what does fairness really mean?

A familiar concept can open up new ways of thinking when we take a different perspective.

It was our first club meeting of the new school year, and it was wonderful to see both returning members and new friends come together to read, share, and discuss.

Changing our minds does not always happen in a single conversation.

As the video we watched at the beginning of the meeting reminded us: There may never be a perfect time for change. Today is a good time to begin.

Reading, writing, thinking, and growing—all of these are journeys.

We look forward to hearing more of the club members’ voices at our next meeting.
